Who is invited?

Are you a woman? Are you a Geek?  This event is for you! 
We invite women from a diverse array of technological fields and those doing technology within non-technical fields.  This includes:

Each day begins with group/interactive agenda setting. Feel free to choose which day(s) you'll come based on your schedule.  Choose how many days you attend based on how much community exposure and opportunity you want and need.  Every day offers new topics to discover!

You can bring your daughters! We even created a special ticket price for them.  Girls as young as 9 years old have attended She's Geeky with their mothers,aunts, sisters, and/or mentors.

About She's Geeky:

Inspiring each other, creating vital networks, and sharing skills are the backbone of our events.  Without places to re-energize and networks that support them, women who have done the hard work of developing their skills to work in STEM may drop out after just a few years in their field. We want to improve the situation of women in STEM fields, increase retention rates, and create a place for women to discuss the topics that are meaningful to them. 

Women attending She’s Geeky events find the inspiration necessary to continue on STEM career paths because they are given the opportunity to present their work, discuss critical issues and build peer networks for support.

We work with and promote existing activities and organizations in regions around the country. She’s Geeky is a neutral event that supports connection between different geeky cultures by using a format where the agenda is created live at the event by the women in attendance.

Since the first successful event in 2007, we have hosted 12 events around the country inclusive of women of all ages who self-identify as geeks. We attract women from a broad spectrum of technological specialties, professions, industries, levels of expertise, and across generations.

This will be our 6th Bay Area She’s Geeky event and we are aiming for 300-500 women attending the event over the three days at the Computer History Museum.

What is an unConference?

Beginning at 9 AM each day we start with a blank wall and in less than an hour, with facilitator guidance, attendees create a full day, multi-track conference agenda that is relevant and inspiring to everyone who attends.  All are welcome to put forward presentations or propose conversations. As women register we will be posting proposed topics on our wiki.

If this is an unConference - why does it cost money?

We operate She's Geeky as a not-for-profit event of PlanetWorks and raise enough funds to cover the expenses of producing a quality event.  About half (1/2) the cost of putting it on  is covered by ticket sales and half (1/2) from sponsors. Our no-show rate is only 10% verses up to 60% for free camps. Because we are committed to  providing food economically and ecologically we create a contract with attendees to attend via a financial incentive (aka tickets). Your payment covers food and a portion of the related venue and event expenses and in exchange we provide a well organized, adequately staffed, engaging event at a reasonable price that is considerably less than regular conferences.  To understand more about this please see our post about money and unconferences.
